St. Petersburg's Exclusive Gated Communities

St. Petersburg Kim vanHerwynen September 22, 2023

Beautiful St. Petersburg, FL, now ranked as the second-largest city in the Tampa Bay area, has long been home to some of the country’s most exclusive real estate. With an average of 361 days of sunshine every year, it’s no wonder that so many of the nation’s wealthiest homeowners and real estate investors choose St. Pete as their home or home away from home.

As the city continues to grow and welcome new residents worldwide, so has the number of gated communities in St. Petersburg to choose from. If you’re here to learn more about the area’s most exclusive neighborhoods, you’ve found the right place. Let’s take a look!

Marina Bay St. Pete

With home prices ranging from $975K for three-bedroom houses to well over $7M for sprawling 5,000-square-foot estates, this St. Petersburg gated community has a stellar reputation in the area. Three properties are found in Marina Bay St. Pete, including single-family homes, low-rise condos, and villas.

Between these homes, there are dozens of architecture and amenities, such as luxury infinity pools, access to the fishing pier with day docs and deep water boat slips, and much more. The I-275 crosses nearby, making it easy to get to and from downtown St. Petersburg or take a short five-minute trip to the beach. Community membership provides access to several pools, a spa and clubhouse, and a fully equipped fitness room.

Venetian Bay

This gated community in St. Petersburg is located in a very convenient part of town to the north of the city between I-275 and Gandy Boulevard. Featuring mostly mid-sized properties, condos, townhomes, and single-family homes, Venetian Bay is one of the more reasonably priced neighborhoods in St. Petersburg that comes with all the amenities you’d expect in a gated community.

The Riviera Bay Park is minutes away, as are some of the most popular shopping and dining amenities like Kahuna’s Bar and Grill, JJ’s Market and Deli, and The Getaway. Residents at Venetian Bay are also close to several top-rated school districts and the Weedon Island Preserve, a must-visit location with boardwalks, a fishing pier, and birdwatching sanctuaries.

Caya Costa

Another gated community close by Riviera Bay, Caya Costa offers residents and visitors some of the most stunning waterside views in St. Petersburg. Since 1980, the 200+ luxury homes in this neighborhood have gathered a reputation as some of the finest in the city. Thanks to the on-site community lake, clubhouse, tennis courts, pool, and 24/7 security guard, Caya Costa epitomizes luxury living in St. Pete.

Golf enthusiasts should also keep Caya Costa on their radar because it’s just minutes outside of both the Mangrove Bay and Cypress Links golf courses. The Rumba Island Bar and Grill, Green Pagoda, Miller’s Ale House, and Cafe Mozart German Bakery are just a few dining experiences on tap for Caya Costa residents, most of which are a 15-minute drive away.

Boca Ciega Point

This community, restricted to homeowners age 55 and above, is another exclusive gated community that has been gathering a lot of attention in the last decade thanks to its wide variety of amenities offered to residents. Prices for the 300+ units at Boca Ciega Point (which include high-rise condo units and one-story homes with waterfront dock and boat lift access, among other housing options) range from $250K to $850K.

Not one but two clubhouses are open year-round, with a library, several tennis and shuffleboard courts, a gym and fitness center, and more. There is a security gate staffed around the clock as well as a 24/7 maintenance team available. The Boca Ciega Millennium Park is a treasured social hub open to residents and a great place to meet up with neighbors, fish, go for a canoe ride, walk the nature trails, or bird watch.

Bayway Isles

This gated community, one of St. Petersburg’s most well-known, features luxury homes ranging from $250K to $8M, ensuring that homeowners of any kind can find a property to their liking in this neighborhood. The waterfront views at Bayway Isles are unbeatable, and the architectural design of the homes themselves are nothing to scoff at, thanks to their luxurious Spanish influences. Featuring properties from one-bedroom condos to expansive 7,000k+ square foot estates, Bayway Isles is a great place to meet new people from a variety of backgrounds in St. Petersburg.

The community itself is on the smaller side when compared to others on this list, giving homeowners here a more intimate connection with their neighbors. The Bayway Country Store and Butcher Shoppe offer a one-stop shop for all your grocery needs. Restaurants like The Wharf and The Deck Bar and Grille are the perfect places to relax. Residents are minutes away from the exclusive Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club, where you’ll find many amenities, from a fitness center to tennis courts, golfing, and a pool.

Canopy Oaks

Speaking of gated communities in St. Petersburg on the smaller side, it’s hard to find a more exclusive gated neighborhood than Canopy Oaks, home to just nine properties. Two villas, one single-family home, and six unique townhomes make up this community, ranging from $1m in price and above.

Each home at Canopy Oaks has a two-car garage and a private lanai, with the option to install an outdoor kitchen if you so choose. Only minutes outside the beautiful Crescent Lake Park with its miles of walkways, this neighborhood is ideally situated beside the famous Museum of the American Arts and Crafts Movement, a major cultural site.

Dolphin Cay

Dolphin Cay is a private, gated community in St. Petersburg, Florida. Located on the shores of Boca Ciega Bay, the community is known for its luxurious waterfront homes, resort-style amenities, and a serene natural environment. It's an area that attracts those who are interested in an upscale, relaxed lifestyle with easy access to water-based activities like boating, fishing, and kayaking.

Amenities often found in Dolphin Cay include private beaches, community pools, tennis courts, and fitness centers, among others. The community has security features like a guarded entrance to ensure the privacy and safety of its residents.
